KHULNA, Feb 26: The workers of Mongla port observed hunger strike on the Workers And Employees' Shangha premises Wednesday to press home their five-point demand including cancellation of Labour Act-14 (Amended).

Source said the caretaker government had abolished Dock Labourer Management Board on May 4, 2008 and introduced a new system on August 1 for handling goods. As a result, about four thousand workers became unemployed.

Since then the workers have been demanding cancellation of the new system and also demanded payment of their retirement allowance through golden handshake.

Another demand of them is payment of all the dues of 200 workers those who have died recently.

However, the authority did not take any step about the matter.
