Moniruzzaman elected NCC panel mayor

Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC)'s ward councillor Moniruzzaman Monir was elected as the panel mayor 2 of the NCC on Wednesday. Moniruzzaman became panel mayor of the city corporation defeating Selina Islam Beauty, the wife of slain NCC councillor Nazrul Islam, by 22 votes. Moniruzzaman secured 28 votes to Beauty’s six in the poll held during a monthly meeting of the NCC. NCC Ward 4 councillor and panel mayor 2 Nazrul Islam and the driver of his private car was abducted along with six other people on Dhaka-Narayanganj highway in Fatullah on April 27 this year and the bodies of the 7 abductees were found in Shitalakkha and Dhaleswari rivers three days later. Beauty was elected as NCC councillor from the seat fell vacant following her husband’s killing, according to private TV channels.
