'Monitor-Malaysian Palm Oil Chef of the Year 2008' competition launched

The Bangladesh Monitor has launched the fourth version of their Chef of the Year competition under the style "Monitor-Malaysian Palm Oil Chef of the Year 2008" in the city recently to popularise Bangladeshi cuisines at home and abroad.

Malaysian Palm Oil Council for the second consecutive time is playing the host as the title sponsor, while Emirates Airline and Wahat Foods Limited, producer of Mughal Brand Ata, Moyda, Suji and spices as the Premium Partners.

Editor of the Bangladesh Monitor Kazi Wahidul Alam formally launched this year's competition.

Malaysian Palm Oil Council Regional Manager of Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar AKM Fakhrul Alam, Emirates' Area Manager Bangladesh Hanif Zakaria and Chairman of the Jury Committee of the competition Siddiqua Kabir were also present at the launching ceremony, among others.

Interested participants have been told to send their entries under the following terms and conditions: Each entry should comprise two recipes of traditional, authentic Bangladeshi dishes (a) Main course prepared with one or combination of vegetable, Fish, Meat, Pulses, Rice.

(b) Traditional Bangladeshi sweet dish (dessert).

New innovative recipes will get preference. Ingredients of the recipes should preferably be of Bangladeshi origin or easily available in Bangladesh.

All recipes should be for serving 6 (six) persons. A contestant may send more than one entry.

Entries are to be sent to: The Bangladesh Monitor, City Heart, 9th Floor, 67, Naya Paltan, Dhaka-1000 on or before October 10, 2008.

A panel of Judges, representing various professional groups, considering various criteria, will select best five entries from each category for the final round of the competition, to be held in Dhaka.

In the final round, the contestants will demonstrate their cooking skill following their recipes in presence of jury committee members and invited guests.

Judges will select one winner from each category. Each winner will receive a cash award of Tk. 10,000.00, a Dhaka-Dubai-Dhaka air ticket with two nights' hotel accommodation in Dubai, a crest and a host of other prizes. The four other loosing finalists from each category will also be awarded as well.
