Monitoring having positive effects on Jhenidah markets

Our Correspondent | Tuesday, 23 June 2015

JHENIDAH, June 22: Monitoring of different kitchen markets by the district administration in Jhenidah is having a positive effect regarding checking the rising prices of essentials commodities here during this month of Ramadan.
Various kitchen markets in the district were experiencing a rising trend of price hike putting the low-income group of people across the district in difficult situations. And the unscrupulous section of traders increased the prices of essentials things in the kitchen markets, targeting the start of Ramadan. So conducting of mobile courts by the local administration has been intensified since the advent of the month. Consumers have  started reaping its benefits in the markets.
Above all, the district administration has fixed the prices of daily commodities here through meetings with sellers of kitchen markets in Jhenidah.
While visiting Jhenidah haat on Sunday, this correspondent saw that the customers were getting things at the prices fixed by the local administration. He also found a mobile court fining several sellers for different faults, including unbalanced prices of vegetables there, giving less in weight and for not having price list kept at the groceries.
Md. Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Jhenidah told the FE, "As a deputy commissioner, I have a moral duty to ensure reasonable prices of daily necessities in the markets. I ordered the shopkeepers in the haats and bazaars of the district to keep lists of both wholesale and retail prices hanging at the shops. And anybody violating the norms must be punished."
