Wednesday, 22 July 2009
A monsoon depression was brewing over the Bay of Bengal, the met office warned Monday, reports bdnews24.com.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction to cross the Orissa-West Bengal Coast near Balasore in India by Monday night or Tuesday morning, it said.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay were advised to remain in shelter until further notice as squally weather may hit the maritime ports and the coastal regions of Bangladesh.
According to a special weather bulletin of the Meteorological Department, maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary Signal-3.
The monsoon depression over the Northwest Bay and adjoining area moved northwestwards Monday evening, the bulletin said.
Under its influence, a steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay.
