Monsoon depression crosses Sunderbans

Monday, 20 August 2007

The monsoon depression moved slightly westwards and crossed the Sunderbans coast near Raimangal river (West Bengal-Bangladesh border) and now lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh as a land depression at 6.00am Friday, reports UNB.
It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction further inland and weaken gradually by giving up precipitation, said a warning message of the Met office.
Under its influence, steep pressure gradient persists over north Bay. Squally weather may continue to affect the maritime ports. Sea will remain moderately rough.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three.
All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
