Month-long handloom fair begins in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, Feb 9 (UNB): A month-long handloom fair began on the premises of local Textile Facilities Centre at Choumohani Friday on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.
Textile and Jute Adviser M Anwarul Iqbal inaugurated the fair organised by the Handloom Board.
During the inauguration, the adviser called upon the people to strengthen the economy of the country by using local handloom products.
He further said the government has taken different initiatives to develop the handloom industry as it meets 40 per cent local demand.
The adviser also assured the weavers that Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation would supply thread to them at reasonable prices.
Some 120 stalls have been set up in the fair, said an official release.
