Family members of another ruling party leader in Narayanganj on Wednesday claimed that the three Rab officials sacked for their alleged link to seven murders had also kidnapped Kanchpur union unit Awami League leader Ismail Hossain to realise Tk 20 million as ransom. “The former CO of Rab-11 Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana abducted my brother,” Ismail’s younger brother Abdul Mannan told a human chain programme in front of Narayanganj Press Club. Local people and family members of Ismail arranged the programme demanding that the ruling party leader who was kidnapped from Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway on February 10 be traced. After the abduction, Mannan claimed, then Rab-11 CO Lt Col Tareque Sayeed sent a letter written by Isamil to them by two members of the elite force. He said as they contacted the Rab CO, he demanded Tk 20m in ransom for his brother’s release. “My brother had been there in Rab-11 office even a few days back, but he has been taken away from there after the seven murders. We want to get back our brother alive,” he added. Addressing the programme, Ismail’s wife Josna said the three Rab officials abducted her husband and asked her to give them Tk 20m without informing media and anybody else. She also claimed that they also threatened her to kill Ismail and all members of her family if anybody could know about the matter, according to UNB.
