More BRTC buses to ply on city roads: Obaidul

Thursday, 6 February 2014

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said the government will soon operate more BRTC buses and taxicabs in the city to resolve its transport crisis. “More BRTC buses and taxicabs will be launched soon in the city and necessary steps will be taken to reduce traffic congestions here,’’ he said. The minister said this while talking to reporters after visiting the beautification work on Banani and Airport roads in the city ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup Cricket 2014. The minister recognised that Dhaka city has become unsuitable for living and said the government has taken many plans to make it worth living. Obaidul Quader said he has already issued directives to Roads and Highways Department to free city footpaths from illegal occupants. “Stern actions will be taken against the occupants if they fail to free the footpaths immediately,” he warned, according to a news agency.
