More calamities awaiting us!
Friday, 28 August 2020
The country may see one more round of flooding in late September, according to official forecast. A cyclone is also likely later. These are alarming pieces of news even in normal circumstances. But the coronavirus crisis has made the situation worse. The recent flooding, affected almost half the country after a devastating cyclone, Amphan, caused huge damage in the south-western region.
We saw mixed performance in tackling the pandemic. Despite some quick steps on the financial front, the health system proved to be not ready to serve the people during the crisis. Distribution of relief materials was also not easy. In such a situation, it would be a daunting task to face one or two more calamities in the coming months. However, Bangladesh and Bangladeshis can make impossible possible if they show willingness to overcome the effects of calamities.
