Customs Intelligence officials recovered 1.3 kilograms (kg) of gold worth Tk 6.5 million at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport on Friday evening. They also arrested two people – Nazir Ahmed, a Saudi Airlines employee, and Aslam Khan – for bringing the precious metal to Bangladesh illegally. Airport sources said Aslam Khan came to Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Airport in Kurmitola in the city from Singapore by a Tigerair flight that landed at the Dhaka airport around 7:30pm. He handed over 7 gold bars and several gold chains to Nazir Ahmed at the Boarding Bridge of the airport. When Nazir was coming out through the Immigration counter, the Customs Intelligence officials challenged him. The Tk 1.3kg gold consignment worth Tk 6.5m was recovered after searching his body. Questioned, he disclosed that Aslam handed the gold consignment over to him. Later, the customs officials also arrested Aslam, according to UNB.
