YANGON, July 30 (Xinhua): One more Malaysian entrepreneur is making feasibility study on cattle breeding in the central part of Myanmar, dealing with the livestock authorities on setting up of a cattle breeding zone in the country, the local Flower News reported today.
A delegation of the Department of Veterinary Services of Malaysia is expected to visit Yangon and Mandalay soon for the purpose following the Farms Products Sdn, Bhd of Malaysia which had come to Myanmar early this month to make similar study on establishment of a live cattle export zone in Myeik, a port city in the country's southern Tanintharyi division.
Myeik was so selected by the prior Malaysian entrepreneur for the establishment which will also include a quarantine zone as the surrounding region is free from diseases that afflict cattle such as foot and mouth, earlier reports quoted the Myanmar Livestock Federation as saying.
Once these plans are successfully implemented, live cattle exports to Malaysia will be represented for the first time in the country, the federation said.
Meanwhile, a special livestock or cattle breeding zone, which will be the biggest in Myanmar, is being set up in the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw, according to the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department.
The zone, made up of seven sub-zones in three townships of Yemethin, Lewe and Tatkon in the new capital region and covers over 2,360 hectare, has started to raise over 1,800 milk cows, sheep and goats, and livestock-breeding-related factories are also being established.
