More migrants\\\' dependents to receive stipend

The government will increase the number of beneficiaries under the programme of stipend for the migrants' children to help them continue of their education, said officials.
The number of recipients will stand at 700 from previous 200 this year. The students, who obtained GPA5 in different levels, will be provided with the stipend money, said an official of Wage Earners' Welfare Board (WEWB).
"To this effect, the committee of stipend programme under the WEWB of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry has already approved the issue. Now it is waiting for the approval of board meeting of the WEWB," he said.
The children of deceased migrant workers will get some flexibility in rules. For them GPA4 holders will be eligible for receiving the money. Besides, the poor migrants' children will be given priority in the programme, he said.
The students continuing their studies will get the scholarship. The money has been allocated from wage earners welfare fund, the official mentioned.
Of the total beneficiaries, 250 will be from primary level, 200 from junior school level, 150 secondary school level and 100 higher secondary school.
Each student will get Tk 900, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 per month respectively as scholarship. They will also be provided Tk 1,500, 2,000, 3,000, 3,000 per year for the purchase of study materials respectively.
The students will get the money for three years, two years, two years and four years in that order.
Each year, the government distributes the financial grant among the students on December 18, the world migration day.
The officials said they have planned to go for proper publicity so that enthusiastic candidates can be informed about the scholarship programme.
