More parties, bodies slate BDR massacre, demand punishment to killers

Different socio-political, professional and cultural organisations have condemned the massacre of army officers at BDR Peelkhana headquarters and expressed deep shock over the gruesome incident, reports BSS.
They termed it a part of a big conspiracy against the nation and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits who sought to destroy the country's defence capability by killing the army officers.
The organisations extended condolences and deep sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for the peace of the departed souls of the murdered soldiers who were the vanguards of the nation at war and peace.
They praised the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Home Minister advocate Sahara Khatun, State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanak, whip Mirza Azam and others who made contribution to bringing the situation under control.
Chief whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Vice Principal Abdus Shahid termed it as a barbaric act and a big loss to the nation. He condoled the deaths of the defence personnel and some civilians in the incident.
Leaders of the country's prime chambers and trade organisations demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits and appropriate steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
National Democratic Party (NDP) demanded proper investigation into the incident and its chairman Khondker Gulam Murtaza called for all out efforts to find out the real culprits behind the conspiracy and punish them.
President of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Andaleb Rahman and secretary general Shamim Al-Mamun termed the massacre as an attempt to undermine the country's sovereignty and independence to make it a dysfunctional state.
A foreign circle and its local agents are behind the incident, they said demanding investigation into the incident by competent people keeping the issue above narrow party politics. He asked the party members to observe the three-day national mourning.
Chairman of Zaker Party Alhaj Mostafa Amir Faisal termed it a deep conspiracy against the nation and demanded punishment to the culprits. He has also asked the party workers to hoist the national flag at half-mast to observe the three-day national mourning.
President of Tahfij-e-Haramine Parishad Bangladesh Maulana Sadeq Ahmed Siddiqui expressed shock at the incident. He said the incident was directed at weakening the defence capability of the nation by killing the capable army officers and creating division between BDR and other armed forces.
Acting secretary general of Bangladesh Red Crescent Mostafa Kamal said the humanitarian organization is carrying out all rescue and other support services to affected people to bring them to hospital and arrange their treatment.
President of 'Amra Muktijuddha Santan' M Humayun Kabir and secretary general Syed Ashraful Islam Nayan condemned the murder, looting, arson and torturing women during the carnage and said the miscreants showed 'Taliban' like cover on the faces.
They demanded immediate restoration of chain of command in BDR and expressed relief at the end of agonies that the people in the area had suffered during the past three days.
Convenor of Peshajibi Nari Samaj Mahfuza Khanam has praised the government for exercising restraint and wisdom in handling the matter and called for a united move and utmost care in dealing with the situation.

More than 500 teachers of Dhaka University (DU) Saturday expressed deep shock at the killing of army officers at BDR headquarters and thanked Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina for resolving the crisis peacefully, reports BSS.
In a joint statement, the teachers of different departments and institutes of DU said the killing of senior officers of patriotic army in the tragic and bloody incident was an irreparable loss to the country.
"We along with the whole nation are shocked at the incident," they said and conveyed their sympathy to members of the bereaved families.
The DU teachers thanked the PM and her government for taking quick steps to tackle the crisis with utmost patience, tolerance, wisdom and firmness.
"Conflicts and bloodshed cannot give solution to any problem", they said and adding that solutions to any problem was possible through peaceful discussions. They urged all concerned to show utmost patience in this regard.

Chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Central Command Council, Principal Abdul Ahad Chowdhury Saturday termed the unrest at the BDR headquarters unexpected, tragic and regrettable, saying that the country suffered an irreparable loss due to the barbaric killings of army officers.
In a condolence message, he expressed deep shock at the deaths of the army officers and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.
Ahad Chowdhury highly praised the timely steps of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in resolving the crisis politically. "The Prime Minister showed farsighted political sagacity in running the country," she said.
He also called for finding out the masterminds behind the incident and giving exemplary punishment to them to check recurrence of such incident.

Journalists of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) at a meeting here Saturday strongly condemned the heinous killing of BDR officers and jawans in the February 25 mutiny at Peelkhana headquarters of BDR.
BSS Chief News Editor Swapan Kumar Saha presided over the meeting held in the news room of the organization while BSS Chief Reporter Azizul Islam Bhuiyan conducted it.

Vice-chancellor (VC) of Jagannath University (JNU) Prof Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Saturday expressed deep shock at the deaths of army officers during the mutiny of some members of BDR at its headquarters.
In a condolence message, he conveyed deep sympathy to the families of the victims and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.
Meanwhile, JNU authorities will arrange a mourning rally on the campus today (Sunday) in memory of the slain army officers.
Students, teachers, officers and employees have been requested to join the rally that will begin from Shaheed Minar of the university at 12.00 noon today.
