More rain forecast: No respite from floods

Flood situation in north and north-western regions of Bangladesh will remain static for the next 48 hours (three days), the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said today. It said the floodwaters might start receding after two days. ‘The flood waters will start receding after 48 hours,’ an official at the FFWC said. He said the water levels in many rivers flowing in the north and the north-western regions were still above the danger mark. At least a dozen rivers are flowing above the danger marks at 19 points. They are Teesta, Ghagot, Brahmaputra, Jamuna, Atrai, Dhaleswari, Padma, Loikkha, Surma, Old Surma, Kangsha and Meghna. Meanwhile, the Met office forecast more rains in different areas of the country including these two regions, according to a private TV channel.
