More rain likely in Dhaka, other dists

Sunday, 25 May 2014

Rainfall on Saturday afternoon brought respite to Dhaka dwellers. Most areas of the country received rainfall, due to a low pressure over Bay of Bengal. According to the latest weather forecast of the Met Office, the country might see rains over the next few days and the balmy, blazing heat-wave will gradually decrease. The capital saw almost one hour of rainfall yesterday followed by light drizzles. The met office recorded 23-millimetre of rain from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in most parts of Dhaka city and its suburbs. Senior meteorologist Abdur Rahman said the depression in the Bay has turned into a low pressure on Friday. ‘The rain is caused due to that and it will continue for two more days,’ he added. The Met Office said the well marked low over East central Bay and West central Bay moved westwards and now lies over West central Bay and adjoining area. South West monsoon may advance up to Teknaf Coast within 24 hours. It has asked to hoist cautionary signal number 3 at Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra maritime ports as a depression has weakened into low in the Bay of Bengal. All fishing boats and trawlers in the northern bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and not to venture into the deep sea. Mild to moderate heat wave has swept over the regions of Tangail, Rangamati, Comilla, Noakhali, Rajshahi, Khulna, Satkhira, Jessore and Chuadangaon on Saturday. Weather forecast says, rain, thunder showers along with gusty winds are likely to occur at a few places over Dhaka, Barisal and Chittagong divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Sylhet divisions. Rainfall is likely at places over Dhaka, Barisal and Chittagong divisions, according to bdnews24.com.
