More specialised institutes are needed

Friday, 17 April 2009

MORE fashion institutes are needed to bolster the country's export oriented ready-made-garments (RMG) sector. More leather technology institutes are also needed. The existing institutes in the two areas cannot produce enough manpower for the RMG and the leather industries of the country.
To create manpower for the growing export-oriented agro industries, specialised agricultural institutes could be another worthwhile field of investment. Besides the government, the private sector should invest in polytechnics, engineering universities and colleges. This would provide good returns to the country as well as the investors.
There is a growing demand for engineering and vocational education. The facilities for such education in the country is inadequate. Investments made in this area will create the workforce to meet the needs of the economy. More investment is also needed in the information technology (IT) education sector, considering its large potential.
But the investors must be guided by the principle of providing quality education.
