More weapons found in Satchharhi forest

Wednesday, 17 September 2014

The Rapid Action Battalion said more weapons have been found in Satchharhi forest in Habiganj district. RAB-9 Srimangal Camp Commanding Officer Mosabbir Hossain said they recovered the weapons from a bunker in the reserve forest’s Tripura Palli. After the latest seizures, Hossain said, RAB-9 men intensified their operation in the area on Wednesday morning in search of more firearms that might be concealed there. The elite police unit on September 2 said they found small weapons and ammunition in a container buried underground in the jungles that falls under Habiganj’s Chunarughat Upazila. Before that, on June 3, a large amount of weapons stored in bunkers dug deep in hillocks inside the forest, were found barely three kilometers from the border with India's Tripura state. The recovery at Satchharhi in June was perhaps the single biggest case of arms seizure since the discovery of 10 truck arms in 2004 in Chittagong. RAB then said the hardware in the Satchharhi hills were similar to those from the 10-trucks Chittagong arms haul and to an earlier arms recovery at Bogra in 2003, according to bdnews24.com.
