More woes for Latif Siddiqui

A Dhaka court on Monday issued an arrest warrant against sacked telecom minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui for failing to respond to its summons in a case filed for hurting religious sentiment of Muslims with his rant on Holy Hajj and Tabligh Jamaat. Metropolitan Magistrate Meher Nigar issued the warrant of arrest for the ruling party’s Tangail-4 MP on Monday afternoon. Latif Siddiqui, when a Cabinet member last month, said that performing Hajj is misuse of wealth and manpower which triggered a widespread criticism home and abroad. He made the derogatory remark about Holy Hajj while addressing a programme of the expatriate Bangladeshis in New York on Sept 29. Them he also said that people doing Tabligh wasting time, manpower and money, according to private TV channels.
