Morgan anchors Ireland innings

Thursday, 12 July 2007

Eion Morgan anchored the innings with a determined half-century on a sluggish track at Stormont, as Ireland posted a competitive total of 210 for 8 against Netherlands in the second match of the Quad Series, reports Cricinfo.
Morgan made 51 from 112 balls, an innings that was enlivened by two big sixes but for the most part involved an angled bat and quick running between the wickets against a determined Dutch attack.
Billy Stelling made an early breakthrough when Ken Carroll was trapped lbw for 12, while at the other end Edgar Schiferli bowled with great accuracy and economy. By the halfway mark of the innings, Ireland were labouring on 69 for 2.
Schiferli removed Morgan in his second spell (126 for 3), whereupon the O'Brien brothers, Kevin and Niall, attempted to pick up the tempo.
