FE Report
US Ambassador to Bangladesh James F. Moriarty launched an in-house training programme on Ethics and Standards in Journalism at the US government-funded Journalism Training and Research Initiative (JATRI), said a press release.
JATRI trains journalists on investigative techniques for print and electronic media, multimedia reporting, storytelling, and journalistic ethics and standards. The programme also houses a state-of-the-art resource centre for media professionals.
The US government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), supports JATRI as part of the US$18 million "Promoting Governance, Accountability, Transparency and Integrity (PROGATI)" project. JATRI, the first training centre on investigative journalism in Bangladesh, is managed by BRAC University's Institute of Governance Studies (IGS).
JATRI, in collaboration with IGS and PROGATI, is hosting its first in-house training programme on "Ethics and Standards in Journalism" from August 10 - 12, 2009. During the course, participants will examine the ethical dilemmas that journalists face in their profession through discussion, role-playing, and case studies.
