Moriarty visits solar project, hospital in Cox's Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, July 8 (UNB) : US Ambassador in Dhaka James F Moriarty Tuesday visited a solar project, run by Grameen Shakti and Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital in the district.

During the visit, the envoy talked to the users of solar energy, women entrepreneurs and technicians who have taken training on setting up the solar system and its maintenance.

In August 2005, USAID provided a US$ 1.18 million grant to Grameen Shakti for the project.

Grameen Shakti managing director Dipal Chandra Barua said they have a total of 170,000 users of solar energy across the country.

The US Ambassador later visited Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital in Chakoria Upazila. Ambassador Moriarty, now in Cox's Bazar on a three-day trip, is scheduled to visit a Rohingya refugee camp on Teknaf border and the Forest Department's Nature Park, funded by USAID Wednesday.
