Mosharraf criticises govt for price hike

Saturday, 21 May 2011

BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandker Mosharraf Hossain has again blamed the government for failing to address people's sufferings, reports bdnews24.com. He said the ruling Awami League-led coalition government has failed to meet "any of the people's crises" in the last two and a half years in office. From a human chain programme in front of the National Press Club Friday he claimed, "Prices of commodities have gone out of buying power of common people, there's no law and order, and human rights situation in the country is grossly violated." He also criticised the government decision to increase the prices of fuel oil "while they cannot ensure sufficient supply of gas, power and water". The government on May 5 raised the prices of diesel, petrol, octane, kerosene and furnace oil by Tk 2 a litre. The human chain was organised to protest against threats to Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque. The former BNP minister also said they will not accept if the caretaker government system is revoked through a constitutional amendment. "Conspiracies are on to hold the next general elections under a partisan government by cancelling the caretaker government system," he alleged.
