Mosquito menace and helpless city-dwellers
Tuesday, 18 March 2014
Dhaka city dwellers are suffering from severe mosquito menace and it seems there is no one to pay attention to it. The two city corporations appear to have failed to discharge their duties and save the city dwellers from mosquito menace. The carnivorous mosquitoes torment the city dwellers both in the day and the night and we have to put up with their music.
A few days ago, after having my dinner I went for a walk with my nine-year old son. But I retreated soon as the street was full of mosquitoes and it was apparent that they didn't like my intrusion into their nocturnal kingdom.
The Dhaka city corporation has been split on the pretext of improving civic services which are yet to be felt and seen. Many people are allergic to mosquito coils. Other mosquito repellents are so expensive that the low income people cannot afford those.
A mosquito bite can prove to be fatal as mosquitoes carry various kinds of germs of diseases. The government should immediately take a mosquito eradication plan and create awareness about it. The summer has just started and we need to be very careful so that we can stay safe from diseases mosquito carries.
