Mosquito menace at Shahjalal Int'l Airport
Tuesday, 5 April 2022
An airport is often considered the front door of a region. Every time a traveller gets off a plane, an impression is created about the place. It can be either positive or negative. But studies clearly tell us that it helps shape an individual's overall perception of a destination. If so, Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport gives a first-time traveller coming to Bangladesh an impression about the country, and it could be a lasting impression. It is unfortunate that the condition of the Dhaka's airport is not up to the mark at all. One of the major issues of this airport is mosquito menace. And the menace is damaging the image of Bangladesh.
The situation created by mosquito at the country's largest international airport is completely intolerable. The problem is less severe during the daytime. But the passengers become restless due to mosquito bites in the evening and at night. They are not safe without mosquito coils burning constantly nearby. At the terminal area, the situation is even worse. If you keep quiet for a moment, a swarm of mosquitoes will come and bite you.
Although the High Court has directed the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh to control the airport area's mosquito menace, the situation has not improved as yet. We urge the authorities to look into this issue sincerely and keep Dhaka airport out of mosquito's reach as soon as possible.
