Most essentials cheaper at BDR-run markets

Prices of most of the essentials are comparatively cheaper at BDR-run open markets and sales centres than the prices of such goods in ordinary city markets, a market report of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) said Saturday, reports BSS.
But, the prices of the vegetables have been increased by Tk 2 to 3 per kg as the supply of vegetables in the city markets became short due to disruption of road communications. Besides, prices of vegetables usually increase in the rainy season, as heavy rainfall affects production.
The BDR report said, prices of rice, sugar, lentil and potato were seen steady in the recent weeks but the prices of cucumber, brinjal, chhola, onion and flour increased between Tk 2 and 3 per kg.
The price of coarse rice in different markets in Dhaka, including Kamalapur, New Market, Karwanbazar, Kalyanpur, Kachukkhet and Mohammadpur ranged between Tk 21 and Tk 22 per kg Saturday.
The price of coarse rice was Tk 20 at BDR-run open markets and Tk 19 at BDR-run sales centres. In Kolkata, the report said, per kg coarse rice is being sold at a price equivalent to Tk 21.
A packet of one kg refined flour (moida) is being sold between Tk 28 and Tk 30 at ordinary Dhaka markets while the price of the item is Tk 30 at BDR-run open markets and Tk 26 at BDR-run sale centres. In Kolkata, the item is being sold for Tk 23.63 per kg, the report said.
The price of imported lentil (mashur) ranges between Tk 60 and Tk 62 per kg at ordinary markets, while it is being sold for Tk 60 at BDR-run open markets and Tk 54 at BDR-run sales centres. In Kolkata, the price of the item is Tk 59.99 per kg.
