Mother, 2 daughters die as boat sinks in Gopalganj

A woman and her two daughters died when a boat sank in Padmavila beel (water body) in Maksudpur upazila of Gopalganj district on Friday. The deceased were identified as Bithi Bala, 35, wife of Nidhan Bala, and their two daughters--Koyel Bala, 8, and Sathi Bala, 4, of Barampalta village in the upazila. Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Maksudpur Police Station, said the boat carrying the family of Nidhan Bala sank in Padmavila beel after it was caught by a strong storm while going to Tentulia village around 4:30 pm. Bithi Bala along with her two daughters died on the spot while Nidhan along with his six-month-old baby boy managed to swim ashore, according to a news agency.
