Mother-daughter hacked to death, snatcher kills woman in Gazipur

GAZIPUR, Mar 31: A woman and her daughter were hacked to death by miscreants and another woman was killed by a snatcher in separate incidents at Kapasia and Kaliganj upazila in the district Tuesday.
An elderly woman and her daughter were hacked to death in their residence at Pabur village under Kapasia upazila in the district on Monday midnight.
The deceased were identified as Surji Banu, 74, wife of late Miar Uddin of Pabur village and their daughter Madia Begum, 50.
Inspector (investigation) of Kapasia police station Abul Kashem said, the mother and her daughter went to bed for sleep after taking meals on Monday night. At around 7.00am, their relatives found the door of the room open.
When they entered the room, they found the blood-spattered bodies of mother and daughter. Police suspected that the miscreants entered the room sometime around midnight and killed them with sharp weapons.
Police said, The bodies had several stab marks on the heads. The killers also took away Tk 4 to 5 thousand after breaking the lock of a steel trunk. Police could not trace the clue behind this incident and no one was arrested. Officer-in-charge of Kapasia police station Ahsan Ullah said, "We are trying to arrest the killers of this murder. Superintendent of Gazipur police Harun Or Rashid visited the spot."
In another incident, a woman was killed by a snatcher at Saoraid village under Kaliganj upazila in the district on Tuesday.
She was identified as Minara Begum, 30, wife of Shahabuddin, an expatriate of the village.
Police said, a snatcher snatched a gold chain from her neck while she was staying beside her residence.
While fleeing the snatcher, Minara was screaming for help to the locals, but the snatcher hit her head with an iron rod and left the place quickly, leaving Minara dead on the spot.
