Mother, daughter killed in Joypurhat road accident

JOYPURHAT, Jan 25 (UNB): A woman and her six-year-old daughter were killed and 15 people injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Sonamukhi Adibasi Para in Akkelpur upazila on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Momena Begum, 25, wife of Bakul Miah and her daughter Mithila of Awalgari village in the upazila.
Police said the accident took place at about 9:00am when a Bogra-bound passenger bus from the Sadar upazila fell into the ditch as its driver lost control over the steering, killing the mother and her girl on the spot and injuring 15 other passengers.
Of the injured, Ashraful Islam, 35, Anwara Begum, 33, Babli Begum, 25, Boishi, 6, Ruma Begum, 18, Zafar Ali, 54 and Sathi Begum 26 were admitted to Akkelpur upazila hospital.
The bus driver and his helper fled the scene hurriedly leaving behind the vehicle.
On information police rushed to the spot and seized the bus.
