Mother, son drown in river

A mother and her son drowned in Jinjiram River in Dewanganj Upazila in Jamalpur district on Thursday night. The mother was identified as Smirity Begum, 38, wife of Belal Hossain of Baliamary Beparipara village under Rajibpur Upazila of Kurigram district, and her son Md Jim, 11. Police said the victims along with other passengers boarded on a motorised boat at Nimaimary Ghat under Dangdhara union in Dewanganj Upazila for going to Rajibpur at about 7:30pm. But, after about half-an-hour cruise, the boat capsized in the face of strong current in the Jinjiram River. After drowning of the boat, Belal Hossain, teacher of a local primary school, and his one son Abu Homaira were saved with help of local people, but his wife and the other son went missing. Later, police with the help of local people recovered their bodies from the river, according to BSS.
