Motia for vibrant farmers' body to fight for rights

Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury laid emphasis on a vibrant platform of the farmers to organise them and address their issues.
She was replying to questions from parliament members (MPs) during question answer session Sunday, reports BSS.
Motia Chowdhury said every group of people and professionals had their organisations to press home their demands.
"But, farmers are mostly disorganised as they have no such platform from where they can raise their demands. The farmer wings of the political parties basically do not work for protecting the farmers' interest, but the leader keep them busy with seminars and symposiums," she said.
Highlighting the present government's plan for development of agriculture sector as well as farmers, the minister said 18.2 million farmer families would be given 'Agri-Input Assistance Card' this year. She said the government had a plan to distribute the cards by March 31. However, farmers, if dropped out, would also get card later, she said adding the government would take decision for similar cards for farmers during Aus season considering the situation at that time.
