MoU inked with Chinese company to set up rail track

The government on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company for setting up rail track on the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar route via Ramu and Ramu-Gundum near Myanmar, reports UNB.
Chief Planning Officer of Bangladesh Railway M Manzurul Islam and representative of China Railway Group Limited Zhang Xuecai signed the MoU for their respective side at Rail Bhaban in the capital.
Railways Minister Mazibul Hoque was present at the signing ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the Railways Minister said that the proposed rail route will play an important role in boosting the country's economy. "The rail route will also play an important role to communicate directly with China and Myanmar and to link with Trans Asian Railway."
He informed that the feasibility study and a detailed design of the rail project have already been completed with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Mazibul Hoque said the Chinese government will soon send a technical team to Bangladesh and as per the team's report, China Railway Group Limited will set up the rail line on the route.
