Moudud demands whitepaper on activities of former ACC chief

Wednesday, 8 April 2009

Former law minister and BNP leader Moudud Ahmed Tuesday urged the government to launch an investigation into the activities of Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury as the chairman of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC), reports UNB.
"Hasan Mashhud has weakened the country using the Anti-corruption Commission in the last two years. Investigation should be launched into and a whitepaper be published on his total activities as the ACC chairman," he told reporters at his Motijheel chamber in the afternoon.
Moudud said there were lots of questions about the property of Hasan Mashhud and his trips to various districts in helicopter.
"I don't think Mashhud has resigned voluntarily… Anyway, he should have resigned much earlier," the BNP leader said.
To a question about the much-talked-about trial of war criminals, he said he himself and his party BNP wanted trial of the war criminals. "But, it has to be ensured that the trial is not done with political motivation."
About the process of trial, Moudud said the process of trial must be transparent and it should be held as per traditional laws of the land.
Replying to another question about the recent statement of Sheikh Hasina about the cantonment residence of Khaleda Zia, Moudud said the Prime Minister should not have made such remarks.
