Wednesday, 21 May 2014
The Appellate Division has turned down pleas of senior BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed and Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain to scrap the case filed against them by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). A four-member bench headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain gave the order on Wednesday. The High Court had earlier ruled against the BNP Standing Committee members when they filed similar petitions. The Appellate Division on Wednesday also, ruled on the ACC’s plea to continue trial on corruption charges against former BNP lawmaker and Partex Group Chairman MA Hashem. Earlier, the High Court had ruled in favour of Hashem to cancel the case against him. The ACC in 2007 had charged Moudud and Hashem with accumulating wealth beyond known sources of income and concealment of assets. A year later, similar charges were leveled against Khandaker Mosharraf, according to bdnews24.com.
