Moudud threatens more hartals

Sunday, 28 November 2010

Dismissing criticisms for calling countrywide hartal, BNP leader Moudud Ahmed MP has warned of more hartals to challenge the misrule, repressions and anti-people actions of the government.
Speaking at a roundtable organised by Swadesh Jagoron Parishad on rule of law, human rights, price hike of essentials and politicisation of the administration in the city Saturday, he reminded the nation that Awami League had enforced 170 days of hartal without any cause during the BNP regime of 2001-06, reports UNB.
Mr Moudud cited the failures of the government to check price hike of essentials, curb terrorism, tender terrorism and secret killings.
He said the ruling party resorted to unprecedented repressions on political opponents. The situation reached such a pass that there was no alternative to launching a vigorous movement to dislodge the anti-people government.
He slammed the government move to reprint the Constitution on the verdict of the court but without amendment by Parliament.
He questioned the necessity of opposition going to Parliament when the government ignored its role in amending the Constitution.
It is unconstitutional and ill-motive to reprint the Constitution, he said, and alleged that government itself had snatched the sovereign rights of Parliament.
