Moudud warns movement if govt implement it

Friday, 18 December 2009

BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed has said a "dangerous situation" would arise in the country if the Cabinet decision to erase Ziaur Rahman's name from all establishments were implemented.
Strongly protesting the reported December 14 Cabinet decision, he said, "BNP would forge movement if the government does not change the decision."
Addressing a press conference in the city Thursday, the BNP leader expressed the hope that the government would change the decision realising public sentiment, reports UNB.
Replying to a question, he said after completion of the announcement of full-fledged committee of the BNP central executive committee and other committees soon, the party's national standing committee, the highest policymaking body, in its meeting would determine the course of action.
He said the action programme would start after December.
Replying to another question, Mr Moudud alleged that the government was pushing the country into a confrontational political situation and they would be compelled to take to the street along with people to protest against government activities.
He said the December 14 decision compelled them to change the BNP decision to attend the President's Victory Day reception at Bangabhaban on December 16.
"The government has deliberately taken the decision of erasing Zia's name so that BNP does not join the upcoming parliament session on January 4," said the opposition lawmaker and former minister.
Mr Moudud said they were thinking about joining the next parliament session.
He said the party would try to make public understand that the government has no priority but to erase Zia's name, instead of solving major issues facing people, including price hike of essentials and law-and-order situation.
The BNP leader cautioned that the government would put its existence at stake by such stance as erasing Zia's name. "You have to pay a price for this," he said in the forewarning.
