Moulvibazar BSCIC industrial area gasps despite having potentialities

MOULVIBAZAR, July 10: Moulvibazar BSCIC area failed to become a successful industrial zone despite having huge potentials.

With available raw materials and a large amount of remittance remaining idle with the local bank branches, industrialisation can be boosted by making proper planning and inspiring expatriates of Moulvibazar to invest.

According to BSCIC, the industrial area was set up between 1987 and 1998 in Gumrah area in Moulvibazar beside the Dhaka-Sylhet road on 14.59 acres of land at a cost of Tk 20 million.

Of the total 101 plots, 84 plots have been distributed for industrialisation and 17 plots are awaiting of allocation. The number of industrial units is 54 among the allocated plots. Permits of 20 plots have been cancelled so far. 18 units are running actively among the 54.

Authority of BISIC informed, according to the rule, construction work has to be finished within 6 month of being allocated and the industry has to go for production within one year.

But most of the enterprises of BSCIC Moulvibazar failed to follow the rules.

Investors said, harassment in getting permission certificate, power problem, iron-infested water and inefficient workers, are the main obstacles of making industry.

The managing director of MB polymer industries told that he made a blunder investing Tk 6.0 million here.

He mentioned the lack of water and the unavailability of power supply make the production process difficult. Moreover, the area has become a safe haven for cattles and other outsiders for not having boundary wall.

However, there is a huge possibility to buildup fish processing units, sodium silicate producing system, Jam-jelly-sauce factory, along with mineral water, wood treatment and furnishers, mosquito coil, sugar, atta and other industries at Moulvibazar BSCIC industry.

There are four food industry, two herbal industry, a chemical industry, eleven technological industry and processing units of seasonal fruits; namely pineapple, lemon, jackfruit and orange.

Sonali Bank manager stated that they are looking for entrepreneurs to give loans to the investors on easy terms and condition.
