Move to change GB governing body election system triggers protest
Friday, 11 April 2014
Elected representatives of Grameen Bank (GB) governing body on Friday deplored the government decision to change its governing body election system. A statement issued by Grameen Bank director Tahasina Khatoon on Friday alleged that the government has decided to introduce the new system of election to the governing body with a motive to ‘destroy’ the bank. According to a circular issued by the government earlier this month, the Grameen Bank (Election of Director) Rules 2014 has replaced the Grameen Bank (Election of Directors) Rules 1987. Tahsina, in her statement, noted that the new provisions give a political shape to the Grameen Bank governing body election, according to a news agency.
