Move to close KMCH cancer institute condemned

Leaders and activists of different professional and socio-cultural organisations have condemned the move to close the proposed Cancer Institute of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH). They also condemned the attempt to shift equipment of Khulna station of BTV to Dhaka. They staged street demonstrations in Khulna city on Thursday and chalked out plans to observe different programmes in protest of the moves to close the proposed Cancer Institute of KMCH and shift the Khulna BTV station. Addressing a rally, the leaders of the organisations expressed their grave concern on the issues and demanded sending of BTV equipment back to Khulna immediately and not to move machineries from Khulna Cancer Institute to Dhaka. Speaking with reporters after the protest programmes, the leaders sought intervention of the Prime Minister, Health Minister and Information Minister into the matter. They demanded of the government to allocate necessary fund for setting up a full-fledged cancer institute in the south-western divisional city, according to a news agency.
