The ministry of agriculture has moved to retrieve lands and structures of its agencies from illegal occupiers against the backdrop of an alarming rise in land grabbing in recent times.
Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury directed Tuesday the relevant agencies under the ministry to place details of the dispossessed lands before it in two weeks.
Her directive came at a meeting that was held at the secretariat to review the implementation performance of the current annual development programme (ADP) under the agriculture ministry, a meeting source told the FE.
Agriculture Secretary, senior officials of agri-agencies including Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) and project directors of different development schemes under the agriculture ministry were present at the meeting.
"Provide necessary documents and latest position about the illegal occupation of lands within 15 days in order to take necessary steps toward reclamation of the same," the agriculture minister told the agri-agencies concerned.
The agriculture minister gave such directive after she learnt that lands and other structures under different agriculture agencies were being occupied by private land grabbers, said a government official.
The meeting was informed that private parties illegally occupied some 41 plots of lands along with other existing infrastructures under the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).
About 13 out of the 41 grabbed lands have been reclaimed from the illegal occupants recently, the meeting was informed.
