Move to turn BJMC into holding co protested

Employees and workers of seven state-owned jute mills under Khulna-Jessore region staged demonstrations in front of their respective mill gates on Tuesday protesting alleged conspiracy to turn Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) into a holding company. The workers and employees of Crescent Jute Mills and Platinum Jute Mills in Khalishpur, Star in Dighalia, Aleem, Eastern in Atra Industrial area and JJI and Carpeting Jute Mills in Naoapara Industrial area gathered in front of their respective mill gates around 9am and staged demonstrations. Later, the workers of Crescent, Platinum and Star jute mills brought out a procession and took to the BIDC road. The jute mill workers and employees urged the government to refrain from the decision and instead ensure necessary allocation for the jute mills during the current season, according to a news agency.
