Move to update BTP info

The government has taken a move to update the trade and business related information of Bangladesh Trade Portal (BTP) to expedite internal and external commercial activities.
Under the move, the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 39 departments or agencies under different ministries for providing information to the BTP.
"A MoU between the MoC and 39 government departments is expected to be signed on August 8 (Thursday next)," an additional secretary of the MoC told the FE.
He said the BTP, which is under the ministry of commerce, will get information from these 39 departments or agencies that will help enrich trade related database/ information being preserved by the BTP.
Bangladesh Bank, National Board of Revenue and Bangladesh Tariff Commission are among the agencies to sign MoU with the MoC.
The BTP is an official source of all regulatory information relevant to traders who wish to import goods into Bangladesh or export to other countries.
It is also considered to be a one-stop point for information relating to export from and import into Bangladesh.
It (BTP) will help improve the predictability and transparency of the country's trading laws and processes, according to the sector insiders.
The website of BTP is expected to provide a comprehensive set of instructions and guidelines regarding trade. The country has made a significant progress on trade and businesses over the last few years.
The commerce ministry official further said that apart from updating the website of BTP, the MoC has also taken e-trade readiness assessment project to keep pace with the growing challenges of global trade.
After signing of the MoU, the departments/ agencies will provide trade and business related information to BTP for enriching its website.
And following that person inside or outside of the country will get clear, specific and detailed information about whole landscape of the country's trade and businesses.
Besides, he/ she will know about import and export transit process, regulatory requirements and compliance procedures and other useful trade related information.
