Move underway to set up full-fledged dental college in Chattogram

CHATTOGRAM, Mar 21: The government has taken a move to establish a full-fledged dental college in Chattogram.
The health ministry has already approved the plan for setting up of the dental college here.
Sources said a team from the ministry has visited Chittagong Medical College to finalise the site for a new dental college. The CMC has provided three acres of land beside its main hostel at Chatteshwari Road in Goachi Bagan area to build the dental college. The team, however, finalised the site for the dental college and the digital survey on the land has also been completed.
Prof Dr Shahena Akter, Principal of Chittagong Medical College said, "The government has already approved the plan for setting up of Chattogram Dental College. Following the approval, the delegation of the government officials has finalised the site for building the dental college on three acres of land beside the CMC's main hostel in Goachi Bagan area. Now, it is a matter of time to start the construction work on Chattogram Dental College here."
She said, "After completion of the construction work, Chattogram Dental College will help the people get better treatment for their teeth and mouth."
Sources said the dental unit at CMC and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course under CMC started its journey in 1990 with only four students. Since then, the dental unit has been playing an important role in awarding BDS degree to the students. A total of 60 students along with foreign students enrol in BDS course every year. Besides, Diploma in Dental Surgery course is running under dental department of CMC.
There are six clinical departments under BDS course at CMC. Several hundred patients come to CMC to get dental treatment every day. There are 20-bed indoor wards under dental department at CMC.
