\\\'Movement\\\' if Faruqui killers not arrested

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Islami Front (BIF) Thursday threatened to launch a tougher movement like countrywide shutdown unless the assassins of TV presenter Mawlana Nurul Islam Farooqi are arrested by Monday next.
They also announced that they would observe doa mahfil at each of the country's mosques after Jumma Prayer today (Friday), hold demonstrations at district level on Sunday and a grand rally in Chittagong on Tuesday next (September 2).
Farooqi, who hosted two TV programmes - 'Shantir Pothe' and 'Kafela' - on Channel I, was slaughtered by miscreants at his Rajabazar residence in the city on Wednesday night. He was also a presidium member of Islami Front, connected with the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat.
A case has been filed over the murder and police have interrogated four eye-witnesses.
Organising Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan Unit of the BIF Advocate Shahidul Alam Rizvi said: "If the law enforcement agencies fail to arrest the culprits, we'll go for tougher movements, including nationwide strike. And the announcement will come from the Chittagong rally,"
He was addressing a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Thursday.
He said the government should take immediate steps to arrest the killers before the demonstration goes violent. "Those who made the hit-list for killing 10 Alems (Islamic scholars) a year ago could be involved in the assassination as the name of BIF Secretary General Allama Joynul Abedin Jubair was also on top of the list," he said.
The human chain turned into a protest rally where several Islami groups joined there expressing their solidarity with them.
Talking to the FE, Joint Organising Secretary of the BIF (Metropolitan Unit) Ziaul Islam said they had requested the government to take legal action against the hit-list makers but it (the government) paid no heed to our concern and that led to the murder.
"We'll be on the streets unless the killers are arrested. I don't know what will happen tomorrow (today) after Jumma prayer as antagonism runs high among the Muslims," he said.
Meanwhile, Faisal Farooqi, son of the victim, has filed a case against about eight unidentified men with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
According to the FIR (First Information Report), the petitioner said the unidentified men came to their East Razabazar residence after Magrib Prayer Wednesday last and tied up everyone of the family before slaughtering his father.
He also claimed that the killers took away cash and valuables worth over Tk 0.4 million from the house before leaving.
Farooqi was also the Khatib of High Court Mazar mosque.
When contacted, Investigation Officer of the case Munsi Sabbir Ahmed said they had so far questioned four persons in connection with the killing.
"We're yet to find any clue to the killing but investigation is going on," Mr. Ahmed, also Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of the police station, added.
UNB adds: State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan said Thursday the killers of Faruqui would be held soon.
Talking to reporters at the Secretariat, the minister said the law enforcing agencies were active to nab the criminals.
