Movement of trucks during daytime to cease in Ctg from tomorrow

CHITTAGONG, Aug 08: Movement of trucks during daytime will cease in the port city with effect from Sunday next.
This was resolved in a coordination meeting of the Traffic Department of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) with the leaders of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), importers-exporters, godown owners and businessmen yesterday.
Concerned sources said, except the trucks engaged in clearing goods at Chittagong Port (CP), the task of transporting the goods by trucks and its unloading would remain suspended across the city by daytime as per the decision taken in the meeting.
If some emergency export goods as well as imported food-stuff on occasion of holy month of Ramadan and raw materials of garments industries needed prompt transport, trucks transporting such goods would be allowed during daytime in the city with stickers of CMP attached to those vehicles.
Persons concerned with export and import and clearance are to procure the stickers of CMP from BGMEA and CCCI office.
Referring to the earlier proposal of the civil society for making the city free of traffic snarl up, DC Traffic of CMP Abu Sufian announced the decision of suspending movement of trucks by day in the city area .
