Terming BNP founder Ziaur Rahman a Liberation War villain, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq on Tuesday alleged that anti-liberation forces are out to depict him as a great hero, reports UNB.
The minister came up with the allegation at a memorial meeting marking the 'freedom fighters' killing day' organised by Major General Khaled Mosharraf Bir Uttam Smriti Parishad at the National Press Club in the city on Tuesday.
The minister said, "Still, there's an attempt to make villain Ziaur Rahman a great hero. A few days ago, people from the Pakistan Embassy challenged whether the people of Bangladesh had fought the Liberation War and made the country independent under his (Zia's) leadership whereas the then Pakistani leaders described only Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the main hero of the war."
A BSS report adds: HT Imam, political adviser to the prime minister, said on Tuesday the state would extend necessary cooperation to try the killers of Maj Gen Khaled Mosharraf, Bir Uttam, who was a Sector Commander during the War of Liberation in 1971.
"A murder case should be filed maintaining proper procedures. We will extend our cooperation to this end," he told a reminiscence meeting.
Mahbub Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, Security Expert Maj Gen (Retd) AK Mohammad Ali Shikder, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council former vice-chairman Ismat Qadir Gama, freedom fighter Mohammed Monirul Haque, Ekattor TV Chief Editor and Managing Director Mozammel Haque Babu and Suchinta Foundation chairperson Mohammad A Arafat addressed the function as the special guests.
Smriti Parishad Chairman Salma Khaled, also wife of Khaled Mosharraf, chaired the function while Baby Mosharraf, daughter of Khaled Mosharraf, delivered the welcome speech.
