MP demands probe panel on medal controversy

An independent MP has demanded that a committee be formed with the Speaker as its chief to investigate the allegations that the medals awarded to foreign friends, who contributed to Liberation War, contained very little gold. Rustam Ali Farazi on Tuesday made the demand rising on a point of order. The previous Awami League government, decided to honour foreign citizens who had contributed to the Liberation War by awarding them medals. Several foreigners have been awarded in phases. A report on a national daily on April 6 said the crests awarded to them did not have enough gold. They were mostly made of alloys of copper, zinc and other metals. He demanded a probe into the allegations, according to a news agency.
