A Dhaka court rejected on Thursday the bail petition of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of Awami League MP Pinu Khan, and sent him to jail in a case filed for shooting two people dead with his firearms in the city's New Eskaton area, reports UNB.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Aminul Haque passed the order when he was produced before the court on completion of his two-day remand period.
Earlier in the morning, Rony's lawyer Qazi Najibullah Hiro filed a bail petition.
On June 30, a court placed Rony on a two-day remand in the case.
With this, Rony has been placed on total 10 days' remand.
On April 13, Rony, said to be a drug addict, allegedly opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people --rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha's auto-rickshaw driver Yakub --injured with bullets.
Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 15 while Yeakub died at the hospital on April 23.
On April 15, a case was filed with Ramna thana against unidentified people in this connection.
On June 1, law enforces arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the firing.
