MRA report to have microfinance data of all sectors

FE REPORT | Thursday, 21 April 2022

Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) has taken an initiative to include data on microfinance from all sectors available in the country in its annual report, said its officials.
To this effect, the annual report titled 'NGO-MFIs in Bangladesh' will be changed into 'Microfinance in Bangladesh (Annual Statistics)' from now on.
The MRA has organised a workshop in this regard to disseminate the information to stakeholders in the city on Wednesday.
According to speakers, the new annual statistical report will include data from banks, non-bank financial institutions, Grameen Bank and various government organisations that run microfinance.
Currently, there are 740 microfinance institutions (MFIs) that have Tk 1,512.09 billion outstanding loans and Tk 421.76 billion in savings, according to the 2020-21 report.
There are 35 million members under MRA-licensed MFIs with 21,000 branches across the country.
