MRT operations halt as 2 climb on station rooftop

FE REPORT | Monday, 1 December 2025

Metro rail services halted about two hours prior the schedule on Saturday night after two individuals climbed on the roof of the Bangladesh Secretariat Station.
The operations halted at around 8:05 PM due to security issues, according to a DMTCL statement.
"Metro rail operations are temporarily closed as two people have climbed onto the roof of the Bangladesh Secretariat Station. We sincerely regret the temporary inconvenience caused to our valued passengers," the statement said.
Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, (deputy secretary) deputy project director (public relations) at DMTCL, later told the FE that the service for the day was suspended due to security concerns.
The authorities also said safety protocols required an immediate shutdown of operations to avoid any risk to the individuals and passengers.
Further details about the individuals or the motive behind the act were yet to be confirmed at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, metro rail passengers opted for local buses to reach their destinations,
intensifying the crisis of transport availability
in the capital.
